The project consists of a series of 8 lectures on forced migration, followed by a volunteering period with one or more associations or entities working in the field of forced migration and participating in the initiative.

The first part of each lecture is dedicated to a theoretical overview in an interdisciplinary perspective, while the second part of the lectures addresses the same issues from an experience-based perspective through the testimonies of staff of the various associations involved, who work on a daily basis with asylum-seekers or beneficiaries of international protection.

The associations that collaborate with the project are: Il Gioco degli Specchi, Mediterranea Saving Humans, APPM - Associazione Provinciale Per Minori, Centro Astalli, GrIS - Gruppo immigrazione e Salute del Trentino, ATAS Onlus, Caritas - Diocesi di Bolzano e Bressanone, ARAS - Associazione di Ricerca-Azione Sociale, Centro per la Pace, l'Ecologia e i Diritti Umani, CSV Trentino, Cooperativa K-Pax, Istituto Comprensivo Rovereto Sud, ICS Consorzio italiano di Solidarietà Trieste, SOS Villaggio del Fanciullo Trento, Progetto ALBA, Kaleidoscopio.

Possible volunteering activities include:

• basic computer lessons
• accompaniment on the territory
• conversation and Italian language teaching and language tandems
• para-legal assistance
• support in job orientation
• awareness raising in schools
• organization of cultural initiatives on migration.

Students who attend at least 6 out of 8 lectures and undertake voluntary work for at least 75 hours have the possibility to have 3 CFU credits recognized.

The credits are currently recognized as determined by each University Department and Center. Credits can be recognized as internship credits, curricular credits (elective courses) or supernumerary credits.

The Open badge is a digital badge that certifies skills, abilities, group membership, course participation or credit award. It contains structured information (metadata) in an open standard (v2.0) that makes it personal, portable and verifiable.

To obtain an Open badge in connection with SuXr, students have to:

• attend at least 6 out of 8 lectures (for at least 75% of the duration of each lecture);
• volunteer at least 75 hours at one of the accredited associations within a set deadline;
• complete progress and final monitoring and evaluation questionnaires.

Since 2016, more than 1060 people have participated in the SuXr project. More than 570 people have completed the full programme, while more than 140 students from different Departments of the University have completed or are currently doing volunteer work at the accredited associations and organizations.
