For the 2023-2024 academic year, the University of Trento offers laptops on free loan to students who meet the required academic merit and financial eligibility (ISEE) criteria.

The scheme provides:

• 100 laptops for students enrolled in first-cycle degree programmes (Bachelor's and Single-cycle Master's degree programmes);
• 30 laptops for students enrolled in second-cycle degree programmes (Master's degree programmes).

Who can apply?

Two separate Calls for Applications are available:

• one for students enrolled in Bachelor's and Single-cycle Master's degree programmes;
• one for students enrolled in Master's degree programmes.

Applicants must be regularly enrolled, no later than their first additional year (fuori corso), and meet the academic merit and financial eligibility requirements specified in the relevant Call for Applications.

Students who have already been assigned a laptop under the previous loan scheme, expiring on 30 September 2023, may keep the device until they complete their studies at the University of Trento, provided they continue to meet the eligibility requirements. These requirements will be verified automatically by the University, and no new application is required.

Students who no longer meet the eligibility requirements will be notified and required to return the device. Any penalties for late return or non-compliance are governed by the Loan Agreement Template – Academic Year 2023-2024.

Each student may receive one laptop only. The device is for personal use and may be used exclusively for teaching, learning and study-related activities.

Loan period

The minimum loan period is 90 days from the date the laptop is collected.

The laptop is provided on free loan until the student completes their degree at the University of Trento, subject to an annual eligibility check (normally carried out around 30 September) to confirm that the requirements set out in the relevant annual Call for Applications continue to be met.

Students may apply under the relevant Call for Applications if they meet all of the following requirements.

First-cycle degree programmes (Bachelor's and Single-cycle Master's)

Applicants must:

• be enrolled in the 2023-2024 academic year in a Bachelor's or Single-cycle Master's degree programme at the University of Trento;
• be no more than one additional year (fuori corso) beyond the standard duration of their programme;
• be up to date with the payment of university fees, where applicable.

Second-cycle degree programmes (Master's)

Applicants must:

• be enrolled in the 2023-2024 academic year in a Master's degree programme at the University of Trento;
• be no more than one additional year (fuori corso) beyond the standard duration of their programme;
• be up to date with the payment of university fees, where applicable.

Financial eligibility

Applicants must have a 2023 University ISEE of €23,600 or less, submitted through an authorised tax assistance centre (CAF) by the application deadline.

Non-EU degree-seeking students who are not resident in Italy are not required to submit a University ISEE.

Academic merit

Students enrolled beyond their first year (up to and including their first additional year) must have obtained:

• at least 10 ECTS credits during their first year of study; or
• at least 25 ECTS credits in each subsequent year, up to and including the first additional year.

ECTS credits are calculated automatically through the University's student information system (Esse3) on 10 August each year, based on examination results officially recorded by teaching staff.

Exclusions

Students who already receive equivalent financial support for the same purpose from other public or private organisations are not eligible to apply.

Allocation of laptops

The number of laptops allocated to students with a University ISEE and to non-EU degree-seeking students who are not required to submit an ISEE is determined in proportion to the number of eligible applications received in each category. Separate ranking lists are then drawn up accordingly.

Applications for the 2023-2024 academic year must be submitted online only, by the deadlines specified below.

First-cycle degree programmes (Bachelor's and Single-cycle Master's): applications were accepted until 12:00 (midday, Italian time) on 11 September 2023 - applications are now closed.

Second-cycle degree programmes (Master's): applications were accepted until 23:59 (Italian time) on 20 February 2024 - applications are now closed.

Students who have already been assigned a laptop under a loan agreement expiring on 30 September 2023 do not need to submit a new application.

If, following the University's eligibility checks, a student no longer meets the requirements, they will be notified and provided with instructions for returning the device.

The laptop must be collected in person by the student to whom it has been assigned, at the UniTrento Laptop Collection Point.

To collect the device, students must book an appointment online through the dedicated booking page by selecting the service "Free Laptop Loan Service for UniTrento Students".

Appointments must be booked within the timeframe indicated in the communication sent by the University.

The laptop is provided on free loan until you complete your degree at the University of Trento, subject to the annual eligibility check (normally carried out around 30 September) to confirm that you continue to meet the requirements set out in the relevant Call for Applications.

When returning the laptop, you must:

• return the device together with all accessories provided;
• ensure it is in the same condition as when it was issued, allowing for normal wear and tear;
• remove all personal data from the device before returning it;
• return the laptop within the timeframe and according to the instructions provided by the University.

The University will inspect the laptop when it is returned. If the device is damaged, not working properly, or is not returned, the penalties set out in Article 7 of the Loan Agreement will apply. Failure to return the laptop may also result in a block being placed on your student record in Esse3.

To return the laptop, you must submit a request through the University's Service Desk portal.

Returning the laptop before the end of the loan period

The loan agreement ends automatically if you:

• withdraw from your studies;
• transfer to another institution;
• complete your degree;
• or otherwise cease to be enrolled at the University of Trento.

If you complete your degree, you must return the laptop within five working days of graduation. Failure to do so may result in the penalties set out in Article 7 of the Loan Agreement.

In all of the above cases, the laptop must be returned by submitting a request through the University's Service Desk portal.

Hardware faults

If the laptop develops a hardware fault (for example, a faulty display or battery charging problem), you should submit a request through the University's Service Desk portal to arrange its return and repair or replacement.
