Studying at UniTrento means becoming part of a stimulating and international environment, where innovation and personal growth are at the heart of your journey.
UniTrento is an Italian public university.
Check the outline of the higher education system in Italy.
To access the first level of university courses in Italy, you must hold a qualification obtained after at least 12 years of schooling and considered valid. If your qualification meets these conditions and you obtained it in Italy, you are eligible for admission.
If you obtained your qualification abroad, visit the page Admission requirements for students with international qualifications, and check which requirements apply to your case.
Visit the Uni-Italia website to learn about the Italian university system.
The admission process, tuition fees and access to scholarships depend on your status:
- EU and equivalent nationals are citizens of Italy, other EU member States and equivalent countries;
- non-EU nationals are individuals from countries that are not part of the European Union.
Admission
Undergraduate degrees and single-cycle master's degrees: you must pass a selection based on an admission test and be in the ranking of admitted students.

Admission
Non-EU nationals can only access programmes that each year reserve for them a number of places and scholarships. Calls for admission open in December and close in March of the following year. The application is only made online, documents sent by email are not considered.
Each programme has specific requirements, which is why it is important to always read the calls, that you can find on the page of each programme.
Please note that:
- for undergraduate and single-cycle degrees (first cycle), you must submit an application for admission and pass an entry test;
- for master's degrees (second cycle), you will need to submit an application for admission, which will be assessed. The outcome of the assessment will be a score out of 100 points.
A ranking is published for each programme of study that reserves places for non-EU candidates. Places are allocated to candidates ranked by score (highest first) until all places are filled.
Tuition fees
The fee system for non-EU candidates is based on merit: fees are calculated based on the ranking score, according to brackets established by each degree programme. The amount of fees varies between undergraduate and master's degrees and between Italian-taught and English-taught programmes.

Scholarships and accommodation
The scholarship system for non-EU citizens is based on merit, i.e. on the score obtained in the ranking, and the number of scholarships available. The ranking indicates which candidates are allocated a scholarship from UniTrento for the first academic year, based on their score. Candidates therefore do not need to apply for a scholarship.
If you obtain a scholarship, to keep it in the following years you must successfully pass the university exams according to the rules illustrated on the dedicated page.
Scholarships for international students
UniTrento reserves accommodation for all non-EU students admitted to an undergraduate or master's degree for the first academic year. Accommodation is not free; further details are provided during the pre-registration process.
If you are admitted as a non-EU national, these rules for fees, scholarships and accommodation will apply for your entire degree programme.
Further information
The University of Trento does not offer foundation years or preparatory courses in Italian. We do not send acceptance letters or visa invitations to applicants who have not followed the admission procedure, even if they have obtained a scholarship from other institutions or government bodies.
