Italian, EU and equivalent nationals

The category of Italian, EU and equivalent nationals includes individuals with:
- Italian citizenship, even if it is one of two citizenships (e.g. Brazilian and Italian citizenship);
- citizenship of a member State of the European Union, even if it is one of two citizenships (e.g. Australian and German citizenship);
EU and equivalent nationals are individuals who:
- are citizens of Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Republic of San Marino, Vatican City State;
- are non-EU citizens (are not nationals of the above countries) but reside in Italy and have earned a high school diploma in Italy;
- are non-EU citizens (are not nationals of the above countries) but reside in Italy or hold one of the following types of residence permit (they must already have the permit when they apply for admission and must renew it until they obtain their degree):
- long-term resident;
- paid employment or self-employment;
- family reasons;
- political asylum;
- subsidiary protection;
- religious reasons;
- for reasons related to the recognition or revocation of refugee status, as governed by Legislative Decree no. 25 of 28 January 2008.
Non-EU nationals residing abroad

The category of non-EU nationals residing abroad includes:
- nationals of countries outside the European Union who are not resident in Italy;
- nationals of countries outside the European Union with a residence permit for study in Italy and without residency in Italy;
- nationals of countries outside the European Union with a temporary protection permit, without residency in Italy and who have not obtained a high school diploma in Italy. The candidates who have obtained a high school diploma in Italy and are residing in Italy fall into the category of EU and equivalent nationals and must therefore follow the instructions reserved for this category in the calls for admission.
This category also applies to non-EU nationals residing abroad who:
- have a secondary education diploma of four- or five-years’ duration from an Italian state school or an equivalent school abroad;
- have one of the final secondary school diplomas referred to in Annex 2 of the "Circolare ministeriale";
- have certificates integrating the final qualification of Middle School obtained in Argentina, attesting that they have attended a course of studies including, for at least 5 years, Italian language courses, pursuant to Law no. 210 of 7.6.1999 (OJ no. 152 of 1.7.1999);
- hold a Diploma in Italian language and culture from the Università per Stranieri of Perugia and Siena;
- hold one of the Italian language proficiency certificates of the Council of Europe (must be the grade corresponding to levels C1 and C2), issued under the CLIQ quality system (the Italian Language Quality Certification, which brings together the current certifying bodies – Università per stranieri di Perugia, Università per stranieri di Siena, Roma Tre University, Società Dante Alighieri), or by the Università per Stranieri Dante Alighieri of Reggio Calabria, including in agreement with the Italian Cultural Institutes abroad or other accredited subjects.
