Scholars at Risk (SAR) is an international network of universities founded in 1999 to promote academic freedom and protect scholars whose lives are in danger, or whose work is seriously jeopardized.

In 2017, the University of Trento joined the SAR network.

The SAR Italy section, established in 2019, counts more than thirty members among universities and research institutes operating in the country, including the University of Trento.
