The University of Trento works to protect research results through the application of suitable intellectual property rights and, supported by Hub Innovazione Trentino (HIT), works to develop them and increase their social and economic impact.
Industrial inventions, utility models and new plant varieties can be protected by patents, while creative intellectual works, including software and databases, can be protected by copyright.
You can find our Regulation on intellectual property and Guidelines on patent management at this page.
The division also supports and supervises processes regarding Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) and Consortium Agreements.
Public expressions of interest
The University of Trento invites public and private organizations to submit expressions of interest for entering into licensing and assignment agreements concerning its intellectual property assets (patent applications, patents, designs, software).
In compliance with current legislation and with the principle of competition, in order to identify the organizations with whom to enter into such licensing/assignment agreements, the University has published on its Albo online a permanent Public Notice containing the intellectual property titles that it intends to assign or license to third parties (to read the notice, enter publication number 3637 in the "Find" field).
Annex 1 contains more information on intellectual property titles owned by UniTrento, links to their description and instructions for accessing the Knowledge Share platform.
The procedure for the examination of expressions of interest takes place on a first-come, first-serve basis, as they are examined on a monthly basis, on the 15th of each month (see Article 6 of the Notice) in the order they were received.
For information on eligibility requirements, the procedure, the evaluation criteria and the method of submitting expressions of interest, please refer to the Public Notice mentioned above, which was published on the Albo online of the University on 21 October 2025, expiring on 31 December 2025, and which is renewed annually.
