As described in the University’s QA Policy (Politiche di Ateneo per la qualità, currently available in Italian only), the University of Trento:

  • ensures the academic and research staff have the right conditions to be able to conduct their own research
  • promotes a critical analysis of the quality and the impact of all research
  • provides a periodic review of research outcomes and impact
  • invites researchers to respond to expectations and requirements of different sectors of society in terms of the research outcomes and knowledge transfer and thus shape their research projects to meet these demands.

Whether through the dissemination of outputs and the fostering of a scientific community or through knowledge transfer to the broader society, the promotion of the excellence of its research is a fundamental part of the mission of UniTrento.

The University’s Quality Assurance Policy is available in the specific section: Documentazione Qualità UniTrento (in Italian).

The Annual Research and Third Mission Monitoring Report helps departments and centres monitoring their research and third mission activities, in accordance with the provisions of the AVA3 model.

The monitoring process covers both the indicators defined at national level for AVA3, and some indicators that the Quality assurance committee deems of interest for departments and centres.

Reference documents can be found, in Italian, at the Documentazione Qualità UniTrento page (Ricerca e Terza Missione/Impatto sociale).

Research Quality Assessments (VQR) are aimed at evaluating the results of scientific research:

  • in 2011, the first VQR exercise was carried out, which analysed the results of research in the 2004-2010 period;
  • the Call for the third VQR exercise for the four-year period 2015-2019 was published in 2020;
  • in 2023, the call "Research Quality Assessment 2020-2024 (VQR 2020-2024)" was published.
