Erasmus ICM (International Credit Mobility) is a programme of the European Union that promotes international mobility between European universities and institutions in non-European countries. It allows students and academic staff to spend periods of study or work abroad, with funding to cover part of the expenses. The goal is to foster cultural exchanges, academic cooperation, and improve the quality of teaching and research globally.

Beneficiaries

Testo

Students enrolled in the I, II o III cycle of a Higher Education Institution that has signed an interinstitutional agreement with UniTrento (check the partners’ list on the dedicated project page).

Duration

Testo

Long-term mobility for study or thesis research (also combined with traineeship): from 2 to 12 months on-site, depending on the terms of the interinstitutional agreement. Typically one semester, corresponding to 5 months for exchange mobility and two semesters (10 months) for Double Degree mobility.

Short-term blended mobility for students: from 5 to 30 days on-site, combined with an online period before and/or after the physical mobility. Usually used for participation in Summer or Winter Schools (14 days).

Short-term mobility for PhD students: from 5 to 30 days on-site.

Grants

Testo

Grants are paid by the University of Trento and consist of an individual support and travel contribution to partially cover mobility-related expenses.

The amount varies depending on the project approval call. Please refer to the dedicated project webpage  for further details.

How to apply

Testo

Selection is carried out by the home institution on the basis of academic merit.

Students cannot apply independently and must be officially nominated by their sending university among the project partners; applicants should not contact UniTrento during this phase.

Once nominated, selected participants receive dedicated support from UniTrento’s Mobility Office.

Inclusion

Testo

The University of Trento’s participation in the Erasmus+ ICM programme is based on an inclusive approach that promotes diversity, equality, and initiatives that value differences while preventing discrimination.

All else being equal, Partner Institutions are encouraged to give priority to candidates who meet the criteria for “fewer opportunities,” in line with the Erasmus+ inclusion principles (e.g., socio-economic difficulties, disabilities, migration background, geographic barriers, or educational and training obstacles).

Students nominated as “fewer opportunities” are entitled to a top-up on their grant, can choose to have their travel ticket purchased directly by the UniTrento, and will receive the assistance required according to their individual conditions.

UniTrento does not tolerate any behaviour that may generate discrimination and is committed to actively promoting an inclusive environment. In this context, the University launched the #finiscequi campaign against discrimination and harassment, spreading an effective message and challenging stereotypes across all departments and offices, reaffirming that such behaviours have no place at the University of Trento or in society.

Sustainability

Testo

The University of Trento promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, encouraging the use of sustainable transportation, such as trains or buses, for international mobility.

Students who adopt “green travel” practices may receive an additional financial contribution and up to 6 extra mobility days to cover travel time. Visit the Green page for more information. The conditions are further detailed in the Grants, duration and activities section of your mobility project’s webpage.

Beyond financial incentives, the University raises awareness of the environmental impact of individual choices through dedicated initiatives, informative materials, and guidelines to reduce one’s footprint in the host city and daily life.

The goal is to enhance the international mobility experience as a learning opportunity, fostering more conscious and responsible citizens and future decision-makers.
