The PhD programme in Psychology and Cognitive Science, offered by the Department of Psychology and cognitive science in collaboration with Fondazione Bruno Kessler, is the evolution of previous programmes in the fields of Psychological and Educational Sciences.

Students participate in intensive courses and conduct research activities under the supervision of faculty members, completing their experience with a six-month period at a foreign institution.

In addition to being the highest academic qualification and a fundamental step for an academic career, the PhD also opens up career opportunities in research laboratories, public administration, healthcare, and private practice.

To apply for the PhD programme, you must have:

  • a specialist or master's degree or a degree issued under the previous regulations;
  • a second-level diploma awarded by higher-education institutions for the fine arts, music and dance (AFAM, Alta Formazione Artistica e Musicale);
  • an equivalent academic qualification obtained abroad (master's degree) that allows admission to the PhD program in the education system or in the country of issue and that is considered suitable by the selection committee for the sole purpose of accessing the course.

For the 42nd cycle are available 12 positions covered by three-year scholarships:

  • 6 grants financed by the University of Trento;
  • 3 grants financed by Fondazione Bruno Kessler on the following topics:
    • A Study of Evaluation Methodologies in Digital Games: Integrating Multimodal Player Data and Peripheral Indexes;
    • Enhancing Speech Language Models for Pathological Speech Analysis;
    • Cognitive and Motivational Mechanisms for Active Citizen Engagement in Urban Digital Twins;
  • 1 grant financed by the Department of Psychology and Cognitive Science within the Project “Transparency in bodily and vocal signals: a tool for metacognition” (MUR_FIS_Fondo Italiano per la Scienza – CUP E53C25003260001) on the following topic:
    • Transparency in bodily and vocal signals: a tool for metacognition;
  • 1 grant financed by the Department of Psychology and Cognitive Science within the Project “Impact Evaluation of an Integrated Model for Teacher Training and Neurodivergent Student Inclusion” on the following topic:
    • Impact Evaluation of an Integrated Model for Teacher Training and Neurodivergent Student Inclusion;
  • 1 grant co-financed by MUSE- Museo delle Scienze di Trento on the following topic:
    • Cognition and symbolic production in Late Glacial Alpine and pre-Alpine contexts;
  • One supernumerary position is available, reserved for applicants meeting the requirements specified in Art. 8 of the Call.
