The title of Doctor of Research with the addition of the “Doctor Europaeus” certificate is awarded by the University, following a deliberation by the Teaching Board, and upon request by the PhD candidate, provided that the following requirements established by the European University Association are met:

• the discussion of the thesis will be granted if at least two professors from at least two higher education institutions in two European countries other than the state in which the thesis will be discussed, have given a positive evaluation of the text of the thesis (manuscript);
• at least one of the members of the examining commission must belong to a higher education institution of a European country other than the state in which the thesis will be discussed;
• part of the thesis discussion must take place in one of the official languages, other than the language(s) of the country in which the thesis will be discussed;
• preparation of the doctoral thesis must be done partly through research conducted for at least one trimester (not necessarily consecutive), in another European country.

PhD candidates who intend to request the additional Doctor Europaeus certificate must make a specific request to the Teaching Board and the Phd Courses and Higher Education Support Division of the campus concerned.
