Since 2016, the University of Trento has paid special attention to forced migration, welcoming asylum-seeking and refugee students as well as scholars at risk. 

In 2019 the University signed to the Manifesto on an Inclusive University, an initiative promoted by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), pledging to facilitate refugees’ access to university education and research, promoting their social inclusion and active participation in academic life through dedicated projects and services.
